PHP Mission Statement

The mission of Parents Helping Parents of San Luis Obispo County is to empower children with special needs to reach their fullest potential.  This is realized by strengthening families through parent and professional education, mutual support, referral networks and greater community awareness. 

What is PHP

Parents Helping Parents of San Luis Obispo County is organized by parents of children with special needs.  We focus on families of children from birth to adulthood who may have developmental or learning-related issues.  If your child has a disability or a delay, you may feel anxious and lonely.  Family, friends and professionals offer help and support, but our parents can honestly say

                “We’ve Been There”

Through our Parent-to-Parent Netowrk we can introduce you to other parents who share similar interests and experiences.  Our services and support programs are FREE for all families seeking information and support.  As parents of special needs children, we can also help you work with agencies, professionals and schools.  The result is effective sharing of important information that can benefit your family.

• Parent-to-Parent matches (by phone or in person)
• Two lending libraries for parents and professional with books, reference materials, tapes and DVDs on parenting and special needs
• Newsletter and local events calendar
• Trainings and workshops by knowledgeable professionals regarding topics about children with special needs
• Information on Special Education
• Agency referrals
• Networking events
• Bilingual services available
